Workers of the department of Environment, Forest and Climate change and officials of a local district administration recently distributed solar lamps to people living along the Indo-Myanmar border blocks of Noklak and Thonokuyu under Tuensang Forest division recently.
Range Officer L Thisngthrise Sangtam and staffers and the extra assistant commissioner of Noklak Phuniang distributed 500 solar lamps to people in Thongtso, Chipur, Jejeking, Thongen, N Peshu, Lumoking, and Khiunjed villages.
Due to its remoteness and thin population, the local population faces hardships in availing basic services. The areas are not yet connected by roads and electricity as well. The officers and the staffers had to take a long trek to reach the people of said areas, it was informed.
‘The Tuensang forest department is making its best effort to reach out to all the un-electrified villages in the border areas providing them life essential and at the same time educating them about their rich bio-diversity and the importance of life need towards conservation,’ a DIPR report stated.
The villagers of the area are said to have expressed gratitude to the divisional forest officer Dr. Sentitula and Mumbai-based nongovernmental organization activist Yatendra Agarawal for their contribution and initiative to reach out to the remotest parts of the region.
