Dimapur, June 11 (EMN): Downstream Affected People’s Organisation, DHEP (DAPO) has reiterated its January 23, 2016, general assembly meeting resolution at Menshangpen village to ban construction of any dam/ reservoir in the NAPA or Pyotchu area which falls within its jurisdiction.
A joint press release issued by DAPO chairman N Mhabemo Mozhui and the secretary Wobemo Tsopoe any dam/project, which does not include constructing of reservoir might be allowed provided the organisation is consulted on all such matters.
“If any of the concerned villages had given No Objection Certificate/s (NOCs) to any company/agency for construction of reservoir dams within its jurisdiction it shall be considered as withdrawn or deemed null and void,” the statement said.
It may be mentioned here that the Downstream Affected People’s Organization, DHEP (DAPO) is composed of 10 villages popularly known as “Podinakup” villages located downstream of the Doyang Hydro Project (Right-bank) under Sanis sub-division in Wokha district.
It further reiterated that DAPO is the sole and legitimate organisation representing the 10 villages on all matters concerning the Doyang river dam downstream and does not recognise nor has it authorised any individual or organisation to represent them at any forum.
It, therefore, made it known to all that any proposal/agreement for dam projects in the DAPO area by any company/agency whether government or private without prior consultation and knowledge of the organisation shall be doing so at their own peril.
