Dimapur, June 28 (EMN): The District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (Dapcu) of Kohima and Project Ahana jointly organised a day-long training for district resource team about HIV and syphilis testing on June 27 at the Chief Medical Officer’s Conference Hall in Kohima.
The objective of the training was to build the capacity of the ANM and block program manager to conduct whole blood finger prick test of HIV and point-of-care test for syphilis and to scale up coverage of HIV and syphilis screening at the primary health centre and sub-centre.
Project officer of Ahana, Mhonthung Tungoe, oriented the trainees about the project. He stated that the project aims to create a cadre of trained personnel in the public health system which will eventually saturate HIV and syphilis screening from health facilities down to the village level. He also mentioned the overall goal of the project was to increase the uptake of Prevention of Parent-to-Child Transmission services in the project area.
The counsellor of the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre, Kohima, Aoyangla, spoke about the basics of HIV and AIDS. She highlighted the significance of pre and post test counselling. Further, she also informed about the importance of maintaining confidentiality of the patients. The participants of the training included ANMs of all health units of CMO, Kohima and block program manager.
