Dimapur, Jan. 18 (EMN): With an aim to create awareness on clean election in the state, 15 dancers led by Jacob Rangpong performed at DC court junction, Dimapur on Friday.
Three groups -- Unique Dancing Crew, Beat Kings, and Team Firm Breezy – from Dimapur and Chumukedima took part in the flash mob initiated by Ethnic Group of Nagaland (EGoN) to encourage the citizens of the state to say ‘No’ to proxy voting, according to a statement.
Assistant Election Officer (AEO) of Dimapur Roland Merry, who witnessed the awareness programme, stated that such kind of participation from the masses especially the youth was necessary in disseminating the message about clean election. She was optimistic that the message conveyed through the “street dance” by the best performers drawn from different pockets of Dimapur would open the ‘eyes’ of eligible voters in the state for a clean election.
EGoN president Miranda Jamir told reporters that the flash mob was initiated for the election department in order to create awareness about “clean election” and that such acts have already been put up other districts, including Mon, Wokha, and Kohima. Similar performances will be followed in other districts in the following days.
The awareness programme was attended by reigning Miss Dimapur 2018, Neingainem Kuki, who is also the election Icon for the district.
It may be mentioned that as per YouthNets’ post election watch highlights report, a total of INR 1061.09 crore was spent by various political parties during the 2018 assembly election, and 17 candidates from Dimapur spent the most at INR 132,80,00,000.
