Dimapur, May 10 : In a significant development, the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) legislators have resolved to request the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) to play a bigger role in finding a solution to the protracted Naga political problem.
A meeting of the DAN legislators yesterday resolved to request the FNR to be more proactive and work harder in trying to bring together the different Naga political groups towards a better understanding for bringing an early solution to the protracted Naga political problem which would be respectable and honorable at the earliest.
A three-point resolution adopted by the DAN legislators also reiterated the DAN government’s stand to continue to support the Framework Agreement, signed on 3rd August, 2015 by the Government of India and the NSCN (IM), which is a positive step forward towards an amicable resolution of the protracted Naga political problem.
A statement from CMO said, the FNR had been rallying for unity among all different Naga political groups to unite so as to present a single, mutually-agreed demand to the Government of India and for cessation of all hostilities in the Naga society, and the efforts of the FNR in the last few years had seen remarkable success in bringing together for discussion erstwhile warring-groups.
“But of late, especially after the August 3, 2015 historic signing of the Framework Agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM), the FNR’s activities have not been publicized and made known to the general public.”
The CMO mentioned that on several occasions the Chief Minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang issued a clarion call to the Naga people to protect and uphold the unique history and identity and to standby the principle of “One People, One Vision and One Goal.”
“Let us do our best to leave behind a worthwhile legacy for which future generations will remember us with gratitude for what we have done,” he had been quoted as saying.
“Let us come together to share our feelings, our views and aspirations so that collectively, we may find better and more effective ways of facilitating the Naga peace process and come to a settlement which is honourable and acceptable to Nagas as a whole,” the Chief Minister had remarked few days after the August 3, 2015 agreement.
On the challenge and responsibility placed on the shoulders on the Naga people by the Prime Minister that Nagas are not only to build a bright future for Nagaland, but with our talents, traditions and efforts, we are to make the nation stronger, more secure, more inclusive and more prosperous and that we are to play the role of the guardians of the nations’ eastern frontiers and gateway to the world beyond, the chief Minister said adding, Nagas must seize the opportunity to rise up to the occasion and stoutly take up the trust and responsibilities placed squarely on our shoulders by the nation.
“We must not shy away, or shirk from the expectations of the nation, but endeavour to the best of our God-given abilities to make our society a better place for ourselves and the coming generations – it is now incumbent on us to reflect the traditional pride, self-respect and confidence that we Nagas are proud of and known for the world over, by our collective wisdom in the days to come,” he said adding, “we have to seriously introspect on our strengths and weaknesses and mend our ways as is expected of us by the nation and the world; and at the same time, the most important thing before us now is to sink our petty differences and strive concertedly for the greater good burying the hatchets and forgetting the hurt caused to each other in the past if at all any.”
Addressing the NPF CEC meet at Kohima, on August 4 last year, the Chief Minister said that the declaration of the Naga Peace Accord was “a welcome news”, saying this was “definitely a result of our collective efforts and pressures by all concerned during the last 17 years of the Naga political dialogue.”
The CMO also mentioned that Zeliang’s ministry was credited for the formation of Nagaland Legislators’ Forum on Naga Political Issue on May 25, 2015 to carry the voice of the House to all stakeholders; and also constituting of the Nagaland Parliamentary Working Committee comprising all political parties in the Assembly, a delegation of which consisting of 19 Legislators went to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and other top functionaries of the Union Government and other leaders of the political parties in the country to convey to them the need to have a peaceful atmosphere and also the need to settle peacefully once and for all the Naga political issue at the earliest.
Yesterday’s DAN legislators meet also resolved to support and “solidly stand by the present DAN Government under the leadership of TR Zeliang.
