Dimapur, Dec. 15: Calling ‘corruption’ and ‘graft’ a trademark of the DAN government, the NPCC said Chief Minister TR Zeliang appears to be hell bent to ‘legitimize’ its trademark and mobilizes all resources at its command to punish anyone who dares to expose DAN government’s misdeeds.
Condemning in no uncertain term the arrest of ACAUT leaders for what it called performing their responsibility in facilitating a corruption-free society, NPCC working president Ayangba Aonok, in a release, on Thursday appealed to the government to listen to the voice of the people and clean up the Food & Civil Supplies department in the interest of the suffering masses and release the ACAUT leaders who are behind bars.
Aonok said after lambasting the Governor and the BJP in the recent past for expressing anguish over unprecedented corruption and graft, the DAN government went a step further and arrested ACAUT leaders for exposing corruption in the Food and Civil Supplies department.
The NPCC also likened the DAN government headed by TR Zeliang to a fascist rule “which is essentially an anti-intellectual movement, pro-capitalist that opposes the right of the workers to resort to strike and demonstration, and without a place for virtues like sympathy, love, understanding, morality etc.” The state Congress also alleged that the DAN government has recruited a good number of police personnel loyal to them through backdoor and unleashed them to quell peaceful rally and demonstration which is but a danger signal for the Naga people. “Intolerance is one of the attributes of the DAN government and declaring a virtual war against the vigilant and innocent citizens of Nagaland must be condemned by all right thinking people,” Aonok said.
On the DAN legislators’ trip to Delhi for Naga political settlement, the Congress said the “much-hyped” trip taken to impress the people that the DAN government is committed towards a political settlement turned out to be a hoax.
Stating that nothing is on record to substantiate their commitment. except the one statement made by the Chief Minister that Naga issue is nearing solution, the NPCC said there seemed to be no spadework and no serious effort has been made by the DAN government to facilitate the settlement. “Instead of working towards a solution the DAN government is gearing up for poll slated in 2018 and drumming up support for electoral gains,” it alleged.
Regarding the issue of declaration of Christmas day as a Good Governance Day by the Central Government, the Congress said the NPF’s stand is still ambiguous and vague. When the matter was raised by the NPCC that the DAN government has not opposed the NDA government’s order, the NPF came out with a vague response and gone on record to say that NPF CEC has taken up the issue, Aonok stated. He said if the NPF CEC has taken up the issue it should be in the public domain and that they speak up without hesitation and faltering. Mere adoption of resolution will not help assuage the hurt feelings of the Christians in Nagaland and the NDA government will not take cognizance of that veiled resolution, he felt.
The state Congress further alleged that the NPF, the so-called protector of Naga identity, has succumbed to the maneuvering of RSS and has completely failed to thwart the Modi-RSS onslaught on Christianity. “TR Zeliang is lenient towards Hindutva and RSS, and virtually given them a free hand to assault on our religion,” it said adding that under an ineffective, corrupt and dictatorial regime, the Naga solidarity is tearing apart and disunity has surfaced as never before.
