The Dimapur Ao Lanur Telongjem (DALT) is all geared up to organise a musical extravaganza at DDSC Stadium on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m featuring various artists from all age groups including veteran musicians from Nagaland.The concert is being held in aid of Senden Riju building construction at Purana Bazaar which will be an all purpose commercial building not just for the Ao community but also for all tribes and organisations.
The various artists performing are as follows:
Waluniba
Waluniba Lemtur a gifted guitarist who started playing the guitar at a very young age and also a student of Joey Woch and has completed his 8th grade in classical guitar. He also won the most promising guitarist under 18 category at the Kolkata International Guitar Festival 2014. He also took masterclasses from the world renowned classical guitarist Marcin Dylla ans Paul Cesarczyk. He is also a part of the Nagaland Guitar Ensemble and will be performing a concert at Kolkata International Guitar Festival from Dec 15th-17th.
Moajungla
A young sensation who took the internet by storm when she did a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Coat of many colors”, Moajungla a shy person by nature yet the only time she can express and be by herself is when she sings. Never had a professional training but has the ability to touch the hearts of the listeners with her voice. As a kid, she remembers entertaining passengers in the bus with the song ‘I want it that way’ by Back Street Boys, when she was just three (3 Years old). Her first singing platform was in Sunday school and later on in different churches and colleges. She recalls her first guitar when her father made one as they couldn’t afford a guitar at that time. “Singing is my passion and will always be” says Moajungla. Her focus right now is more on studies. Five years from now she plans to tour across the country.
Wapong ozukum
Known for his incredible vocal range, a wholesome talented singer songwriter, Wapong is the front man of the band INCIPIT. He has performed all over the country and is a recipient of Best Vocalist at Hornbill International Rock contest 2010, Rock Rules Guwahati 2011, Rocko Phoenix 2011 and realesed an Ao album in April 2016. Presently is a Voice teacher at Note Grid School of Music and Hills Praise Academy.
Mangyang Kichu
Mangyang Kichu a singer, song writer and a talented musician from Nagaland, he is also a grade 8 topper in Vocals from Trinity college London. He sang for the President of India on two occasions, the former prime minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, the CAGof India and on the felicitation program for Mary Kom at the Taj, Delhi. He performed along with Neil Zaza 2016 in Dimapur and was also the opening act for Eric Martin (Mr. Big) at Kohima and Dimapur 2016. He has performed along with many different artists and bands from Delhi and Nagaland. He is the proprietor of a music store called Big Fuzz located at 3rd mile Dimapur and currently the vocalist of band claaed 3’s Company.
The power ballad couple Sashi and Asen has performed all over the country and in the region. Sashi is a studio recordist and musician and Asen a teacher.
Wonder Wave is a boy band from Dimapur formed in the year 2001 consisting of four members, Imna Yaden, Asangba Jamir, Teeya Imsong, Tiaren Lusang. The band members met while persuing their studies at Guwahati, Assam. They released their first album “friendship” in the year 2003 recorded at Guwahati. Also winning contest like ‘Summer Jam under pop category. After taking a break the band came up with the single hit. ‘Osang Tajung” (Ao) featuring Alobo Naga last year, currently the band is working on a new single which will be released this December. The band believes in connecting people and spreading love and Peace through music.
Singer and a songwriter and a talented musician, he started singing at a very young age. His first album is titled ITAYA NUNGO (MOONLIT NIGHT SOUVENIR). Some of his hit songs from the album are “Aluyimer”, “Mokokchung”, “Molumi nu meyong”. He is working on his next album and will be singing some newly composed songs as well as some hit songs from his previous album.
Tsuzarisang Imchen or known to many simply as Tsuza is a man who has been a part of the music seen in Nagaland since the early 1970’s. He was the vocalist for the band ‘Flanders’, ‘Sticky Fingers’ and ‘Stray Cat Blues’. He cites Rolling Stones, John Frogerty, Eagles and Elvis Presley as his influencers.
Being in the late fifties and granddad to four energetic grandchildren, he has but just one advice. Never let age stop you from doing what you want to do in life. In his case, he is never going to stop singing. He says that even after one’s death, one’s going to sing with the angels in heaven. Thus, his music is constant.
Dreamz Unlimited is a theatre and Film Production House based in Dimapur, Nagaland. They have a Youtube channel with the same name where they constantly upload short videos mostly on the trending topics in the state with a touch of satire and humor. They also do ads for government and private entrepreneurs’ and since their forte is comedy most of their videos reflect on that genre. At present they have more than 32000 subscribers which is relevantly high in such a short span of time. They also perform plays for various churches, civil societies, NGO’s and government departments. Recently their feature film NANA – a tale of us, was widely appreciated by all sections of people and one of their video on the theme ‘Swachh Sanklap Se Swachh Siddhi’ (My Contribution towards Making India Clean) got 3rd position at National Level Short Film competition. The members of DU consist of different tribes and they are committed in working together in unity to bring positive change in our society through this medium of Art.
Known for his gentle voice, the charming persona reminisce his mother who had a strong influence in his life when it comes to singing which led him to mark the milestone in his music career. His first performance as he timidly recalls started at the All India radio Kohima, singing rhymes representing his school which indeed was a very huge experience. At the age of 12, he picked up the harmonica and guitar which he could master well with the help and inspiration of his brother being a musician himself. A person fond of writing poetry and short stories, he never thought would hit the recording studio and have the highest selling album among Ao Naga artists. He has released three albums so far, Aluyimer, Jina Etiben Ken and Nokinketer. He is revered for many of his contributions in music particularly towards in the Ao dialect. Presently he is the Dy. Director, Food and Civil Supplies, govt of Nagaland.
Marjo is 21 years of age currently doing her Masters in Chemistry from St. Joseph University. Ever since her childhood she was deeply influenced by music. Her passion in singing started mostly at schools and different churches. She is a positive and very energetic person most of the time but needs some quite time alone just listening to music over and over again. Over the years songwriting has become a part of her life. “I have a very active mind and I get inspirations from the smallest of things so I note them down or record them, it’s a process I enjoy” quotes Marjo.
He is a Grade 6 in voice, under rock School of Music and winner of Magnum Opus (original song compettion). He is presently also a teacher at Hope Academy.
