DIMAPUR — Dakshata training for medical officers and nurses under WokhaDr. Thungchanbemo Ezung along with resource persons and trainees at the Dakshata training held at DMMDH Wokha. district was held at the conference hall, Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital (DMMDH), Wokha, from February 11 to February 13.
According to an update from CMO Wokha, addressing the trainees, Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung, Chief Medical Officer of Wokha, called upon them to upgrade their skills during the training and thereby improve childbirth delivery services in the health centres.
The CMO spoke on the significance of Dakshata, saying that it is a Sanskrit word for skilful or proficiency.
Dr. Ezung informed that Dakshata is an initiative of the National Health Mission launched by the Government of India in 2015 to enhance the skill of health workers during childbirth in the labour room and to provide quality care to mother and newborn before and after delivery.

The resource persons for the three-day training were Dr. Benchumi Humtsoe, medical officer (obs. and gynae), DMMDH, Wokha, and Sorenpeni Lotha, community health officer, Pongitong Health and Wellness Centre.
The topics covered during the sessions were quality care in labour room, stages of labour, pre eclampsia, eclampsia, partograph, normal delivery and AMTSL, preparation for safe delivery, puerperal sepsis, infection prevention, Safe Delivery App etc.
Practical demonstration on newborn resuscitation using dummy, handwashing techniques, kangaroo mother care etc., were also conducted.
The resource persons also carried out pre and post training tests for the trainees.
The training concluded with vote of thanks by Mhonbeni Ezung, district programme manager (NHM), who thanked the resource persons for their valuable inputs and hoped that the trainees will share the skills learned with their colleagues at their respective health centres.
