Chetheba Town, Dec. 20 (EMN): D Ballers from D Khel Kohima village emerged as the champions of the first edition of Winter Open Basketball Challenger after beating Team Junior Runumole 53-35 in the final match here at Chetheba town local ground on Wednesday.
Point guard Ruokuovilie Kire and small forward Dziesekhrietou Kire led the way for D Ballers as they totaled 27 and 15 points respectively as the team beat their rival team Runumole by a margin of 18 points in the final match.
In the match D. Ballers were leading by eight points with 25-15 against Team Junior Runumole till the second quarter.
D. Ballers team continued their lead as Ruokuovilie helped the team to score a total of 53-35 at the end of the match.
Point guard Ruvezo Swuro scored 12 points for Team Junior Runumole but it was not enough for the team.
Choseta Swuro, teacher, Government Middle School Thenyizumi gave away the awards in the closing ceremony. The champions D. Ballers walked home richer with a cash prize of INR 20,000 along with citations while the runner-up team Junior Runumole received a cash prize of INR 10,000. The two day event was organised by Team Huskers.
While in the open category, Vesacho Resu won the two-point shooting competition and Vesato Nyekha was the winner for three-point shooting competition.
