Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has warned that strong winds and “heavy to very heavy rainfall” might hit the state, even as cyclone ‘Mora’ is expected to make a landfall in the northeast states in the next 48 hours.
“The northeast India including Nagaland will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall by 30th to 31st of May 2017. On the 30th May 2017, heavy to very heavy rain would occur in Nagaland with extremely heavy rainfall and squally wind speed of 44-45 km gusting to 65 km/hr”, the NSDMA informed through a press release on Monday.
“Ensure your neighbours are aware of this issued warning. Listen to the media for regular updates of the weather @imd.gov.in. For any further clarification and support, please stay in touch with the concerned District Disaster Management Authorities and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority at #9555844253,” it stated.
Similar warnings have been issued by the respective state governments of Mizoram and Meghalaya. According to a PTI report, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued warning to the state Disaster Management Authority that the cyclone 'Mora' will hit several states in the northeast.
“Heavy rainfall is expected in the next 48 hours, an official told PTI. The government has advised people of the state to take precaution and other preventive measures as heavy rainfall is expected. Government response team has been activated in case of any emergency, the official said.
“The MeT department said that Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall”, the report read.
