Kohima, Jan. 14 (EMN): The Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) on Thursday resolved to promote Naga wrestling in its area during a consultative meeting hosted by Minister for Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu.
The meeting was held at the auditorium of Mt. Sinai Higher Secondary School (MSHSS) in Kohima and was attended by leaders from Chakhesang frontal organisations, and former CWA officials. They explored and deliberated on how to promote and improvise wrestling activities, as wrestling is the traditional game and identity of the tribe.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo implored the participants to take wrestling forward to other communities besides the constituent units of the Nagaland Wrestling Association by way of organising tournaments in the form of inter-state/ regional wrestling tournament.
He maintained that wrestling had come a long way and urged the wrestling fraternity to carry forward the game in pointing out the scopes while asserting the need for professionals in wrestling.
Chakhesang Public Organisation president, Mikha Kenye assured to extend full cooperation and stressed on taking wrestling to national and global platform.
State wrestling coach, Chisazo Dawhuo meanwhile pointed out the need to focus on grass-root level and added that studies and sports must go hand in hand.
Former minister Zachilhu, retired secretary of Nagaland Murohu Chotso, CWA advisor Hukhoneyi Soho, CWA advisor Kuhupoyo Puro, vice-president of All India Traditional Wrestling and Pankration Federation, Mosonyi Domeh, also addressed the meeting.
Earlier the CWA president Vekhozo gave a power point presentation on ‘way forward on promotion of Naga Wrestling in Chakhesang areas and beyond’ by highlighting the scope of wrestling at national and international platform and the need to develop and promote the sports discipline.
The meeting meanwhile resolves to promotes wrestling following the meeting which the general secretary, CWA Kuzhovesa Soho lead the adoption of resolution which the house recommit for promotion and preservation of Naga wrestling in every possible way.
Resolutions adopted during the meeting were introduction of wrestling in all schools under Chakhesang area during annual sports week; introduction of wrestling in Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) meets in weight category- 50-59 kg, 60-69 kg and 70-79 kg. Meanwhile it also adopted to sensitise the range and village level leaders on importance and prospect of Naga wrestling, and also to encourage participation in belt wrestling.
It further resolved that “All ministers, MLA, Chakhesang government officers and public leaders would give top priority to educationally qualified champion wrestlers in matters of appointment. This would be the joint effort of all concerned Chakhesang”.
The house resolved for formation of ‘trustee board for CWA corpus fund’ with one chairman and four other as members to mobilise funds and that ‘each successive-tenure would contribute at least one lakh towards corpus fund’. It added that ‘the trustee board shall bring out modalities for operation of corpus fund’.
CWA adopted to ‘take full responsibility of 18 selected wrestlers for at least 20 days before NWA main tournament and the initiative shall be collective efforts to improve overall performance of its wrestlers’. Further CWA resolved to host forthcoming NWA Open Tournament, which would be the collective effort of all Chakhesang and had also extended its invitation to well-wishers for support in any form.
