Agriculture department inaugurates Custom Hiring Centre in Chümoukedima.

DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chümoukedima, Polan John, on Wednesday launched the Custom Hiring Centre (CHC), which was initiated by the office of District Agriculture Office (DAO), Chümoukedima.
An update from the office of the District Agriculture Officer informed that Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) would provide farm machinery and equipment for rent to farmers, particularly small and marginal ones, to boost agricultural productivity. The centre is equipped with various farm machineries like tractors, tillers and other implements, which farmers could hire at subsidised or minimum rates.
The centre was established under the scheme NMEO-OP (2023-24) 2nd installment, which aims to increase farm power availability and help farmers who cannot afford to buy machinery themselves.

It stated that the programme was aimed at increasing the accessibility, improve productivity, sustainability and empower oil palm farmers. It added that the Department has a goal to increase the availability of farm power in Nagaland, which is currently low compared to the national average by promoting mechanisation through the centre.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, the DC shared valuable insights on farm mechanisation and its importance for the farming community. He added that the objective of setting up the centre was to improve the economy of the farming community.
The programme was chaired by Kevin Solo, SDAO of Chümoukedima, while the District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of Chümoukedima, Moainla Pongen, highlighted the benefit of CHC.
Altogether, 60 Oil palm farmers attended the inaugural programme.
