With no untoward incidents reported, the district administration has further relaxed the prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC from 6 am till 9 pm w.e.f March 12 till further notice. However, the blocking of internet and SMS in the state was extended by 24 hours. After the expiry of 24 hours, SMS service will be restored however the district administration will be requesting the government to continue the block on internet services (GPRS), said Wabang Jamir, IGP (Range). Internet (GPRS) and SMS/MMS services were blocked from Saturday night after videos related to the lynching of the rape accused in Dimapur surfaced on the net.
Meanwhile, the police have so far arrested 48 persons for their involvement in the March 5 incident in which an alleged rape accused was lynched, informed Wabang Jamir. Two members of Survival Nagaland (SN) have received anticipatory bail but the police will request for custody for interrogation, he added.
Police have also ruled out the involvement of underground groups in the March 5 incident till now.
Clarifying to reports in some section of national media that Nagaland government said there was consensual sex, IGP (Range) said that the some media are only taking certain section of the state government report to Union Home Minister and changing the whole story. The report of the Nagaland Government to the Union Home Minister consist of three statements, that of the victim, the accused and the co-accused.
The IGP (Range) while maintaining that the preliminary medical reports conducted at the Dimapur Civil Hospital confirms rape, said that the vaginal swabs and other evidences collected from the victim has been sent to Kolkata for DNA test. The evidences were earlier sent to Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Guwahati for test however due to lack of facility, it was referred to Kolkata for DN Analysis.
