To raise awareness among the public about clubfoot deformity and its free treatment in the State, CURE International India, Nagaland unit, has organized a programme on June 3 at Nagaland Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) in commemoration of the World Clubfoot Day with the rest of the world on the theme “A world free of clubfoot deformity.” This was stated in a press statement issued by Tiarenla Jamir, State Programme Coordinator.
Ponseti International Association (PIA) has designated June 3 as World Clubfoot Day. This particular date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Ignacio Ponseti (1914 - 2009), the developer of Ponseti Method to treat clubfoot deformity without any surgery.
In Nagaland, CURE International programme was started in September 2012 in the Hospital Authority Kohima and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Government of Nagaland and CURE International India on March 25, 2013. The main objective of this programme is to eradicate disability cause by clubfoot.
So far 26 children have enrolled for free treatment of Clubfoot deformity at NHAK.
Meanwhile, the State unit has appealed to all the public to immediately bring their child born with clubfoot deformity right after birth to the hospital for assessment and avail free treatment at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.
For public information, it stated that the Clinic would be opened on every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 A.M. under Orthopedics Department. They could also contact the helpline numbers NHAK 09615606161 and National Helpline number 09868005679 for further necessary information.
