Member NEC M.P. Bezburuah and his lady wife graced the 9th day cultural programme of Hornbill Festival 2014 as honour guest today at Naga Heritage village Kisama. He was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for Urban Development Zhalieo Rio; Advisor Tourism E.E. Pangteang; MLA Dr. Neiphrezo; Commissioner & Secretary Tourism, Art & Culture Himato Zhimomi; Director Art & Culture, Vevo Sapuh; Director Tourism, Purakhu Angami and other officials.
The cultural troupes who participated in the morning session included Changun Cultural Society Tuensang (Chang)- Bintan Sangmai; Tuophema Village Cultural Troupe (Angami)- Folk Song; Dimasa Cultural Troupe Dimapur (Kachari)- Kram Jang, Mai Duba (Folk Dance); Phelungre Women Society, Kiphire Town (Sangtam)- Women Indigenous Game; Aosungkum Cultural Club Mokokchung (Ao)- Oki Soyim (Folk Dance); Dzulhami Village Cultural Troupe (Chakhesang)- Tsaapo Li (Sowing Song); Meluri Cultural Troupe (Pochury)- Ae-Wuh; Longsoh Wotzo Cultural Troupe (Kooyak)- Sangfou Threi Pu and Chekiye Women Cultural Group Dimapur (Sumi)- Hiisho Le (Song of pounding rice).
In the afternoon session different cultural troupes from various tribes of Nagaland participated in the cultural programme with their dances and songs. The cultural troupes were as follows: Baro Historical 8 Cultural Society Dimapur (Garo)- Wapang Kala; Saramati Rekhiangpong Dancing Club Salomi Village (Yimchungrii)- Sangpun Chim Khi; Bhunmnyu Cultural Troupe (Phom)- Folk Dance; Kuki Cultural Troupe Inbung (Kuki)- Numei Kichep (Girls Game); Mbaupungwa Village Cultural Troupe (Zeliang)- Folk Dance; Khiamniungan Cultural Club Tuensang (Khiamniungan)- Juniak Nyuh (Millet Harvesting); Teragvunyu Youth Dengme Cultural Troupe (Rengma)- Makecho (Indigenous Game) and Phiro Cultural Club, Wokha Town (Latha)- Mayang Chumpo (Folk Song).
Traditional fire-making competition
A traditional fire making competition was held at the main arena of the Hornbill Festival celebration at Kisama today where all the 16 tribes from Nagaland participated in the competition. Namang Chang from Tuensang tribe bagged the 1st prize by making the fire in 1:16:97 sec. and walk away with cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-. Neprüzu Chakhesang from Phek district bagged the 2nd prize with 4:15:65 sec. received a cash prize of Rs. 7,000/- and Honnyem Konyak from Mon district stood in 3rd place with 29:04:15 sec. and received cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-. The prize money was sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports. Assistant Director, YRS, Kevigo Rotokha gave away the prizes to the winners.
Kids Carnival held at Kisama
Miss Gumehar of Class V from KV Zakhama and Chiben of Class II from Fernwood School won the title of Miss and Mister Kids Carnival 2014 which was held at Children’s Park Kisama today.
The Miss and Mister walked away with a prize of Teddy Bear and Ben10 car respectively. The competition was open to all categories where Nine childrens from different schools participated in the competition. The judges of the competition included Ebibeni and Ruokuokhrienuo.
The Hornbill Kids Carnival was organized by Synergy Group Enterprise to create a space for children to have fun and to promote their talents. During the 9 day long besides the Miss and Mister Kids Carnival various competitions in singing, painting/drawing, essay writing, baking and chocolate making, choral were held. The Nagaland Association for Adventure Mountaineering and Education (NAAME) also organized various activities such as Water Zorbing, ZIP Lining Long and Short Range, Trampoline, Burma Bridge, River Crossing, Beam Balancing, Shoot the Target not Bird, Obstacle-Commando NET, Angri Brid, Tent Pitching and Rappeling.
