Dimapur, May 20 : Emphasising that leadership quality is highly demanded of government servants in carrying out assigned duties, State Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar exhorted the State bureaucrats to assimilate those qualities required of a leader to accomplish government programmes and policies.
The Chief Secretary insisted on leadership quality as the means to lead is undergoing vast change with the society getting more complex. He was speaking as the chief guest at the valedictory function of the two-day workshop on leadership skills for the bureaucrats in the rank of Joint Secretary at ATI conference hall, Kohima, on May 17.
Stressing on the importance of cooperation, he stated that the ability to cooperate among human beings is a unique character, which has helped in survival. Also mentioning on the importance of ‘self awareness,’ Pankaj exhorted the bureaucrats not only to be aware of their own skills but also of the people around them.
‘You should lead, don’t be led by the pressure around you,’ he added.
The training program was sponsored by Department of Personnel and Training. The facilitators for the workshop were Secretary of
NCERT, Sudeshna Sen, and Director of Railway Stores (M), Ministry of Railways, Sudhir Kumar Sharma.
Training on ethics and values in public governance would be imparted to bureaucrats in the rank of Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary in the next few days.
The participants also shared their experiences and suggestions on the workshop. Director of ATI, Lithrongla G Chishi, chaired the program.
