Wokha, Jan. 4 (EMN): The 73rd edition of Chukitong Range Sports Association (CRSA) sports meet 2022 kicked off at Chukitong public ground in Wokha district on Tuesday.
Hachio Patton senior PS to Dy. Chief Minister of Nagaland was the special guest.
Patton said that Chukitong Range was an ‘iconic figure, a mirror image of Lothas where National Highway passes through’.
He also mentioned that the range has excelled in various sports disciplines and has participated in some recognised sports platforms.
He was optimistic that CRSU would set an example by executing indigenous games of Lothas and urged to uphold and continue to preserve the indigenous ancestors’ games in every sports platform ‘before it becomes just a history’.
He challenged the sports professionals to abstain from the use of drugs and related intoxication substances and to make use of their health as a source for achievement.
‘Nagaland has less opportunity comparing to other states that can engage the educated youths in private sectors jobs; even the state government cannot accommodate the educated youths in providing government jobs; and it has come up with a new vision to create self-employment and self-engagement through music, art and sports,’ he said.
Encouraging the youths, he also mentioned that sports have become an industry of excellence, where professional sports icons are enjoying a ‘rich lifestyle’ which the young talents need to look up to.
Meanwhile, Zumchio Kikon, chairman of CRSA, in his welcome address, shared a brief history of the sports meet, while he told the players to shoulder responsibility and display their skills with discipline.
Yanthungo Kikon President BJP, Wokha district in his welcome note expressed that the new generation was more into indigenous games and were taking a keen interest in sports. He told the players to achieve their dreams and bring laurels through sports.
Earlier the event also witnessed a special song from R David Ngullie, Director Bravo School of Music, Wokha and a prelude presented by Pretty Petals School Chukitong. The programme was chaired by N Ejanthung Ngullie advisor, CRSA and invocation by Nzanmongo Ngullie Pastor, AG Church Mungya Village.
A total of eighteen teams are vying for the trophy of the CRSA sports meet.
