Archery is ‘great sport’ to boost mental and physical health: Patton

Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) and the Manipur women police won the team championship in both men’s and women’s category respectively of the 4th All India Police Archery Championship 2015, which concluded today at NAPTC Stadium, Chumukedima.
Among 21 participating teams comprising 287 players, C Bhagwan Das from CRPF was declared the best archer in the men’s category. He won 4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. In the men’s category, CRPF team secured 8 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals to clinch the championship. ITBT team emerged the runners-up, while Assam Rifles secured the third place. In the women’s category, Manipur women police secured 5 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze to claim the women’s team title. ITBT team was declared runners-up, while SSB team secured in the third place. Nagaland secured 2 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze.

Addressing the uniformed personnel after the prize distribution, Patton attributed the event as an opportunity for police fraternity to come together and showcase their talent. He said the coming together of police personnel from different sects, cast and creed from all over the country would provide ample opportunity to promote national integration.
Patton said games and sports are considered integral part of any individual including uniformed forces to keep themselves physically and mentally fit. Among other sporting events, he said archery is considered ‘great sport’ for boosting ones mental and physical health as it requires endurance, concentration and self-confidence. He said such attributes would improve coordination and stability and enable them to do better in their workplace.
Patton was optimistic that by organizing such event of national standard, police forces throughout the country would enhance their performance in the service of the nation.
He has appreciated the State police and the organizing committee for successful conduct of the event. He further wished that the tradition of the All India Police Archery Championship Meet would continue to grow from strength to strength with a commitment to produce archers of international standard from amongst the police fraternity of the country in the like of Chekrovolu.
The Home Minister was accompanied by Education minister Yitachu, Parliamentary Secretary of Housing Er. Levi, Parliamentary Secretary of Soil and Water Conservation Pukhayi, Chairman of DAN Dr. Longrineken, and Advisor DUDA Thongwang.
