Kohima, April 18 (EMN): In an attempt to enhance ties among the eight north-eastern states, a cross-regional car rally is being organised and at least 46 participants reached Kohima on Monday.
The ‘North-East India Inter-State Friendship Car Rally 2022’ envisages to build an age-old connections and to enhance the relationship between the people of the region so that peace can once again prevail in the region.
The rally is being organised by International Friendship Car Rally Association (IFCRA), a not-for-profit organisation based in Arunachal Pradesh, in association with North East Today.
A reception ceremony was held upon arrival of the convoy in the state.
Pem Sonam, President IFCRA, told journalists that a total of 46, including six women were participating in the car rally. The participants included seven each from Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland, 10 from Arunachal Pradesh, and four from Assam.
The participants had already covered six states, covering 1800 km out of the targeted 2800 km.
The convoy will go to Guwahati this week. It is the seventh edition after having organised similar rallies for five years now, Sonam said.
A 21-year-old female participant, Gopi Lollen from Arunachal Pradesh, shared that ‘it was exploring and seeing new places that prompted her to take part in the car rally’.
It was worth it though tiresome, she said, adding that out the NE states, Mizoram is her favourite place and vowed to visit the state in the future.
She also encouraged the adventure enthusiasts to grab the chances and opportunities before them.
The car rally is being sponsored by the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER.
Earlier in the event, an official from the Tourism department said that the rally will not only help in promoting tourism in the region but also spread peace, harmony, and oneness among the north-eastern states.
The official further extended invitation to them to be a part of the state’s Hornbill Festival.
