DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 10 : The cracks that have been widening in the Ao Senden, the apex Ao civil organization, turned into a full-blown crisis on Thursday when four of its officials led by the president tendered their resignations.
Since the past few months, the vicious twists and turns of politics in Nagaland have taken its toll on the Ao Senden leadership. Sources however said that what really pushed the Ao Senden leaders to such drastic action was the meeting of the presidents of five Ao ranges on November 7 last.
Sources said that the five range presidents had called for an Ao Senden presidential meeting to be held on November 12 next. The president of Ongpangkong Range did not attend the November 7 meeting.
The Ao Senden officials who resigned today were of the view that the November 7 meeting of the five range presidents were “unconstitutional”.
It might be recalled that eight urban units of the Ao Senden had on October 11 last asked the Ao Senden to convene a federal assembly on October 22. The meeting was not convened. Calls made to the Ao Senden officials were not answered.
