Dimapur, July 23 (EMN): A person accused of involvement in the death of a girl in Chumoukedima in Dimapur has been arrested, while a number of separate cases involving extortion and theft marked the Dimapur police enforcement activity during the month.
The additional deputy commissioner of Dimapur, the PRO, issued a press release on Tuesday listing out the enforcement activities.
According to the press release, the police arrested Sanjay Lodh (20 years), stated to be the prime accused, hailing from Lahorijan village in Assam’s Karbi Anglong, in connection with the murder of a girl Tasenjungla whose body the press release stated was recovered from a pond on July 12 in Chumoukedima.
“During the course of investigation, the accused person was arrested and on further police interrogation, the accused admitted to commission of the crime. Substantive and corroborative evidences are being collected to frame the charges against the accused and further investigation in on,” the police said.
Extortion
On July 6, the Dimapur Police apprehended one Angukavi Achumi (32 years) stated to be a self-styled ‘Rajapeyu’ of the NSCN (IM) from the Marwaripatti area while he was issuing “work permit” and extorting money from building construction workers (non-local labours) at Kalibari road Dimapur.
In this regard, 15 “work permit cards” of the NSCN (IM) and a cash of INR 4300 were seized from his possession, the press release stated. Accordingly a complaint has been registered, , the police said.
On the 7th of July, the police arrested one Nevoci Vese (38 years), a resident of Burma Camp in Dimapur for extorting from auto rickshaw drivers from te Half Nagarjan area, the updates stated. The police seized a cash amount of INR 390 and extortion slips of the NSCN (IM) from his possession, the police stated. In this connection a case has been registered at east police station.
On the 9th, Dimapur police personnel apprehended one Kughaho Chishi (42 years) of the NSCN (K/Khango), and a resident of Thahekhu block -7 in Dimapur, the updates stated. The authorities seized one .22 pistol with a country made magazine and two.22 live rounds from his possession, the police stated. A case has been registered at west police station, the press release stated.
On the 11th, the Dimapur Police Anti-Extortion Team apprehended one person by the name Mughato Chishi (38 years) of the NSCN (IM), and a resident of Burma Camp for extorting INR 300 from pick-up drivers in the name of the underground faction at Burma Camp. The police seized a cash amount of INR 590 from his possession, the press release stated. Accordingly a case has been registered at east police station.
On the 14th, the police’s mobile unit apprehended one Hito Ayemi (19 years) of Chekiye village while he was demanding money from one shop at 3rd Mile in Dimapur. During frisking, extortion slips were seized from his possession. Accordingly a case has been registered at Diphupar police station, the police said.
On the 17th, the police apprehended one Tovi Awomi, stated to be a self-styled ‘Rajepeyu’ of the NSCN (K/Khango) for extorting money at the Sub Jail junction. The authorities seized INR 15200, and 23 “information slip” of the NSCN (K/Khango) from his possession. Accordingly a case has been registered at west police station, the updates stated.
On the 18th, the Dimapur Police Highway Patrol at Jornapani intercepted three truck drivers namely Ravindra Rai (NL-07A 2885); Sanju Kumar (NL07A 4685) and Rohit Chetri (NL01K 1769) on charges of food grain pilferage that was being transported to Peren district. Accordingly a case has been registered at Medziphema police station, the updates stated.
On July 20, Dimapur police apprehended one person namely Nizamul Haque, proprietor of JR Travels in Muslim Colony Road at Purana Bazar on suspicion of selling black SIM cards. During checking, 292 black SIM cads (Vodafone), two biometric finger scanners, one eye scanner, one GPS device and one Acer laptop, and one logistic webcam were found inside the shop. Accordingly a case has been registered at east police station, the police added.
