Dimapur, Dec. 22 (EMN): A craftswoman from Nagaland, Kevisedenuo Margaret Zinyü, has been awarded with the World Craft Council Award of Excellence 2018. A press release on Saturday said she is the first from Nagaland as well as in the Northeast India to have won the award.
The World Crafts Council was stated to have announced the final results of the WCC Award of Excellence 2018 in which Zinyü was one of the winners. It was announced by Manjari Nirula, vice president of the South Asia WCCAPR.
Winners are said to be chosen after a vigorous process of evaluation over products from different crafts and countries. The products that are chosen have had to meet criteria of “excellence,” authenticity, innovation, marketability, eco friendliness, the press release stated.
The updates stated Zinyü to be a graduate of the National Institute of Design at Ahmedabad. She started her label Woven Threads in 2014. She organized and developed her collection with crafts women from her native state of Nagaland. Margaret’s vision is to create a self-sufficient community for the weavers of Nagaland, the press release stated.
“She has acquired a varied range of professional skill sets from different industry, ranging from automobile, clothing, paper industry and museum design. Margaret also provides trainings and teaches trend research and colour forecasting,” the updates stated.
The World Crafts Council was originally established in the 1964. It has brought together craftspeople and organisations from all over the globe with a shared commitment to promoting the values of craft and artisanship. Members of WCC are active in Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America and Africa.
