KOHIMA — To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Phek district formation, the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), in collaboration with all its frontal bodies, district administration and other government departments, will organise a mega tree plantation drive on June 5 coinciding with World Environment Day.
A CPO press release informed that the 50th anniversary of the Phek district formation would be celebrated in the month of December 2023.
“This landmark event not only reminds us of the progress we have made but also serves as a reminder of our responsibility to safeguard the natural heritage that surrounds us,” CPO said.
The primary aim of the mega tree plantation drive was to plant a significant number of fruit trees along the highways within CPO's jurisdiction (Sedzü to Dzülhami, Sedzü to Pfutsero, Phek to Pfutsero via Sakraba, Pfutsero to Chizami).
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]In this regard, all the village councils along the highways have been asked to coordinate with CPO monitoring groups for the procurement of tree saplings from the distributing points, logistics and implementation, and post-event care.
Apart from the villages along the highways, CPO has asked all the villages to participate and contribute to the greening of the district by planting a minimum of fifty trees within the respective village jurisdiction with the slogan "Fifty trees for fifty years."
