Opposing the Land Acquisition Bills, 2015 which was passed in Lok Sabha recently, the Communist Party of India (CPI) is all set to stage a nationwide protest against the said Bill starting from May 14 next. This was informed by the CPI Manipur State Council secretary, Dr M Nara Singh while addressing a press meet at its party office at BT Road, Imphal on Monday afternoon.Dr Nara further said that the party took a decision in a recently concluded CPI Party Congress at Pondicherry from March 25-29 last which were attended 10 delegates from the CPI Manipur State Council. He termed the party congress a historical one wherein the party have decided to take a series of struggle for engendering a ‘Left, secular, and democratic front' in the state.
He added that the party is making all out effort not to passed the bill in Rajya Sabha and further alleged that if the said, "Bill happened to become an Act, then it will allow the big corporate to take away the land anytime". He stated that the PM Modi is trying hard to promulgate by making the bill into a 9- points one to pass by the Rajya Sabha.
Highlighting the road map relating with May 14 protest, Dr Nara further said that the CPI all over India have given a collective voice to revoke the "draconian law Armed Forces Special Powers Act not only from Manipur but also from all states of India". He added that the party has made a stance to "fight against any threats to the territorial integrity of the state."
Accusing the current NDA-led government at centre, he ssaid that the country have not be able to witness any change after a long UPA regime. Instead, he alleged, it only spread the communal venom in the country, as more than "600 riots have taken places in the country" since the NDA came to power at centre and there are many instances on conflagration of churches etc.
On the state front, the CPI state council secretary N Mangi said that party will carry on a democratic movement besides launching agitation against the government’s failure while implementing public distribution system (PDS), failure in water and irrigation systems in the state alongside standing demand and removal of AFSPA.
He alleged, "The Khuga Dam Multi-purpose which costs Rs 400 crore is a total failure now". He added the project was inaugurated by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi not long ago but it proved to be a total failure within a short span of time. The project which is supposed to provide irrigation facilities to 15 hectares of paddy fields for double cropping, 5 million gallons of drinking water and 1.75 megawatt hydro-electric power, is totally failed, he further alleged. He however added, the state government is looking for construction of new dams without analysing the existing failure.
