
Imphal, March 7 (PTI): A man with symptom of ‘fever and cough’ has been kept in isolation at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here as a precautionary measure, Health officials said on Saturday.
Manipur Health Director K Rajo Singh in a statement has said that the case, however, does not meet the line of Covid-19 and is being managed on the line of influenza, like isolation, sympotic treatment for fever and cough.
The man had arrived at Imphal Airport on Friday. As he was having ‘fever and cough’ he was taken to the isolation ward of the RIMS, the official said
The man had visited Dhaka recently, they said.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh during a recent review meeting on coronavirus had told people to avoid mass congregations and celebrations like the Yaoshang (Holi) festival.
The state government has suspended biometric attendance in government offices for a month as a precautionary measure.
Meghalaya to set up isolation wards in 13 hospitals
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said isolation wards would be set up in 13 hospitals across the state as a precautionary measure for coronavirus.
Health Minister, A L Hek said that not a single case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the state till date.
Sixty-one students who returned from China were kept under observation for 28 days in the state as a precautionary measure.
“After 28 days, 54 of them have come out without any symptoms. The remaining seven students are being monitored and the 28 days of observing them will also complete soon,” the CM said.
The chief minister said 13 hospitals across the state have been asked to prepare isolation wards in case there’s an outbreak of the virus infection.
The chief minister told journalists that more precautionary steps are being taken by the state government while monitoring the situation.
He said that private hospitals have also been asked to take necessary steps.
“We are taking all measures to prevent the spread of this virus. Masks would be also distributed as a preventive measure,” Hek said.
Meanwhile, the chief minister said that trade fairs and big events attracting people in large number would not go ahead.
He said that trade fairs would also not ahead based on advisory as there are materials from foreign countries in such fairs.
Sikkim govt. reviews preparedness to deal with coronavirus
The Sikkim government has reviewed the preparedness of the health and other departments and the action plan to deal with any situation of coronavirus infection in the wake of reports of the disease in different parts of the country, an official said.
During a meeting held on Friday, Chief Secretary S C Gupta asked the state police department to strengthen checkposts with adequate manpower for an expeditious screening of visitors in the border area.
Gupta asked the health and education department officials to ensure compulsory screening of foreign students who are studying in Sikkim.
He directed the tourism department to conduct meetings with stakeholders including travel agents and hoteliers to solicit their cooperation to prevent infection of the disease.
He also asked the department to issue travel advisory asking people in the state to not visit the five countries - Iran, Italy, Japan, China and South Korea which are severely affected by coronavirus infection.
The meeting was attended by Director General of Police (DGP) A Sudhakar Rao and principal secretaries of health and rural development departments and other senior officials.
The chief secretary directed the authorities in all districts to prevent mass gathering during the upcoming Holi festival and put a ban on the use of chemical gulal by the revellers as a preventive measure.
The state government has decided to suspend issuing Inner Line Permit (ILP) to foreign nationals following coronavirus scare as a precautionary measure and stopped giving permits for travel to Nathula, the official said.
He said Sino-Indian border trade at Nathula will remain suspended till further order.
The chief secretary was told by the information and public relation secretary that the community radio station was being used to spread public awareness to prevent outbreak of the disease.
Though no positive coronavirus case has been detected in Sikkim, the state government has made elaborate arrangements to deal with any situation, the official said.
