Dimapur, March 24 (EMN): The members of Mokokchung Press Club have resolved to avoid all press conferences for the time being in view of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, and as a counter measure to prevent the spread of the virus.
An update from the press club informed that it will, however, continue to remain active in their line of duty and those in need of their service can continue to contact them.
The Mokokchung Press Club has appealed to all the citizens of Mokokchung to adhere to the public advisories issued by the competent authorities from time to time on the matter. “In the unfortunate event of an outbreak of COVID-19 in the district, it is everybody’s guess that we do not have the adequate medical capacity to contain the situation,” it warned.
“There is no report of Covid-19 positive case in the district as of date but we also know that no tests have been done and we do not have a testing lab or a diagnosis facility in the district. Therefore, the best option that we have at hand is to prevent the entry of Covid-19 into our district and/or to curtail its spread, if in fact the virus is already here, by adopting and adhering to the measures issued by competent authorities,” it added.
It stated that majority of the people of Mokokchung are complying to the advisories of the authorities knowing the gravity of the situation but “some insensible members of the society seem to be taking the situation for granted in the most oblivious manner which is putting the lives of the entire population of Mokokchung at risk”.
“It is our sincere appeal that each and every single individual member of the society come together to defeat Covid-19 and that common sense would prevail, so that we can fare through this trying situation together and safely as a society,” it stated, while thanking the Young Women Christian Association of Mokokchung for donating face masks to its members.
