Dimapur, July 24 (EMN): The elderly man who reportedly tested Covid-19 positive from Kalibari Road area in Dimapur on July 22, died on Friday morning at the Covid-19 Hospital in Dimapur on July 24.
A reliable source informed that the 78-year-old patient had multiple underlying ailments and was comorbid. The source also informed that the patient had a pacemaker.
Updates say that he was first taken to Zion Hospital at Purana Bazar, from where he was then taken to the Covid hospital.
According to an official from the Medical department, disposal formalities and management of the dead body is being taken care of by a ‘duty team’ designated by the Covid-19 hospital.
The official informed that the Dimapur Covid-19 hospital has an ‘End Life Care’ corner, whose role is to take care of deceased Covid-19 patients. After the disinfection formalities are done, the dead body is to be transferred to their family for cremation.
According to the SOP for management of Covid-19 dead, the duty team will take care of disposal.
The Covid-19 dead would be wrapped properly with a bed sheet and a plastic sheet before being transferred to a body bag, after which the body would be taken outside the ward to the disinfection site where a coffin is kept ready.
The dead body will then be transferred to the coffin by the same team. The coffin and the disinfecting site will then be disinfected. Adequate Personal Protective Equipment is required for End Life Care teams, and SOPs are expected to be modified according to need.
