Dimapur, March 8 (EMN): The Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench has passed an interim order suspending the decision of the Merangkong village council on March 2 which had decreed that no other candidate besides the incumbent MLA would be allowed to “discuss politics and campaign for elections from amongst the citizens of Merangkong village”.
The incumbent legislator from the constituency is Amenba Yaden. This resolution was challenged before the court by four persons: Wapongtemjen, Temjenzulu, Lanuwapang and Lepzungchiba – all residents of Tuli town. The petitioners had argued that the village council cannot impose a candidate of their choosing on the villagers. Consequently, the court issued an order on March 7 – made available to the press on Wednesday – stating that the March 2 resolution of the Merangkong village council “shall remain suspended until further order”.
