Court orders AR to open the Imphal-Moreh road

Our Correspondent IMPHAL,February 5 High Court of Manipur has ordered the Assam Rifles authority to open the Imphal-Moreh sector of National Highway 2 for twenty four hours for health related purposes, legal sources said. The court also questioned the reason for closing the road from 6pm to 6am every day. The division bench comprising Chief Justice Luxmi Kanta Mohapatra and Justice Kh Nobin of the High Court passed an interim order today after hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).The PIL was filed one Kumarjit Singh on February 2 against the Assam Rifles authority’s report of restricting the movement of public on the route for 12 hours (6pm to 6pm) on a daily basis at Khudengthabi and Tengnoupal area under Chandel district bordering Myanmar. The litigation was listed today and discussed by the division bench,the source added. During the day’s hearing, the bench also asked the Assam Rifles authority to submit a report explaining the reason for the restriction etc in this regard within February 11. Submitting his point of view to the court, the state government counsel also reportedly mentioned that they did not impose any restriction on the movement of vehicles on the National highway. The respondents of the case include Union Defence Secretary, Union Home Secretary, Commanding Officer of 9 Assam Rifles, 24 Assam Riflesd, 26 Assam Rifles and state Chief Secretary representing Government of Manipur. Assistant Solicitor of India Salam Rupachandra appeared in the court representing as Counsel of Central Government and Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani representing for the complainant.
