DIMAPUR, MARCH 28
The Hon’ble Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, on the matter pertaining to the false sworn affidavit made by TR Zeliang, the present chief minister of Nagaland, while filing for nomination to the Returning Officer during the 2013 Assembly elections, had another hearing on Monday after it was earlier adjourned on March 14 last.
Due to the high profile nature of the case, the matter was argued for more than an hour by the legal counsels of both the parties. The matter was heard at length by Hon’ble Justice LS Jamir, and judgment is reserved after Monday’s hearing.
According to highly reliable sources, the court is likely to pass judgment on the case by next week. It was also informed that the court heard on the summon notice issued by North PS Kohima to the two petitioners, a report of which was published in Eastern Mirror on Monday. On this matter, it was learnt that the complaint was noted and placed on record by the Hon’ble court.
It is worth mentioning that the matter first came to light when an FIR against TR Zeliang was filed on September 3, 2015 at North PS Kohima on the ground that he had filed false sworn affidavit during the 2013 Assembly elections. Thereafter the matter has been trailing till today.
It is informed that the allegations against TR Zeliang appears to pertain to the fact that while the affidavit filed by him discloses that he graduated in 1980 from Kohima College under North Eastern Hill University, the records disclosed by the college does not seem to justify such claim.
Also it is informed that in the ‘Who is Who’ of 2013’, TR Zeliang has been described as a graduate from Kohima College in the year 1979.
