KOHIMA, JANUARY 20
A hearing on the Chief Minister, TR Zeliang’s educational qualification issue was held at the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench on Wednesday.
Zeliang’s advocate, A Zhimomi and the counsel for the complainant, KN Balgopal presented their arguments to the Court and the matter was heard by Justice LS Jamir. However, the Court has reserved its order.
The Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench had earlier in December stayed the order of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Kohima summoning Chief Minister Zeliang to appear in person before the court on January 7 for hearing on his educational qualification issue. The case relates to filing of “false declaration” by Zeliang in his affidavit while submitting nomination form to the Returning Officer during 2013 Assembly elections. The complainant is alleging that Zeliang, who holds the highest office of the State, has made a “false claim” and declaration on his educational qualification and therefore has misled the people.
