The counseling for selected students to undergo various technical courses at the Dr. YSR Educational & Welfare Foundation Course organized by the Naga Students’ Federation was held Tuesday at the Capital Convention Centre.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P. Longon was scheduled to grace the occasion but failed to turn up as the programme coincided with a cabinet meeting. He, however, handed out a message which was read out by the by the NSF General Secretary.
Expressing deep regret for being unable to attend the programme, the minister, however, was not short of encouragement for those selected students.
He also appreciated the efforts of the NSF and further encouraged them to continue this kind of initiatives so as to enable the poor and needy students to come up at par with others.
“This kind of initiative from a student body like NSF is befitting as the very objective of the NSF is also for the welfare for the students community,” Longon said.
In his message to the students, the minister advised them to take keen interest in their studies and further urged them to utilize the opportunity they have been given.
“I would advise you to be serious in your studies and equip yourselves with whatever professional course you undertake and come back home and serve our people with your knowledge and experience. You must remember that your parents are sending you with a very high hope despite of financial constraints,” Longon said.
The Dr. YSR Reddy Educational & Welfare Foundation is a voluntary, non-political, non-profit making, social service organization established to develop education by giving professional admission to meritorious poor and students belonging to the ST/SC/OBC and minority community.
The foundation also offers both degree and diploma courses in various disciplines to students belonging to economically poor and backward section of the society.
The minister also lauded the YSR foundation for their invitation extended to the people of northeast, at the same time he also appealed to the managing authority to take special care of the students coming from Nagaland and other parts of northeast states.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Tongpnag Ozukum, president NSF, while a not of introduction on the Dr. YSR Education & Welfare Foundation was given by Madhu Sudhan Reddy, President, Dr YSR Foundation. The programme was chaired by NSF general secretary Esther Rhakho.
