Dimapur, May 27 (EMN): Chairmen of councils in Dimapur proper have announced a decision that they shall no longer collect ‘tax’ on behalf of the underground organisations.
The media cell of the Dimapur Urban Councils Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) issued a press release to the media on Saturday stating the decision.
The DUCCF stated that it ‘respects’ the Naga “national” movement and would endeavour working toward a strong “united Naga nation.”
However, the press release stated, as the Naga public had realised that as long as the Naga movement stays a 'divided house,' the Naga people’s aspirations and dreams will never be fulfilled. This realisation led to the public resolution of 'One Government, One Tax' on the 31st of October 2013, the press release reminded.
“So, based on the decision made at the 31st October 2013 public rally, under the aegis of ACAUT (Against Corruption & Unabated Taxation), DUCCF had since resolved not to collect any form of taxation for the NPGs (Naga Political Groups) and had stood firm on the principle of ‘One Government, One Tax’,” the organisation stated.
The federation stated that it strongly felt that the colony councils have been instituted to serve the interest of the public, without any fear or favour, and not to act in any way that is detrimental to the wishes of the Naga public.
“When the Naga public had resolved on 'One Government, One Tax', and decided not to pay tax to any NPG factions the council members cannot collect tax for NPGs. Therefore, the DUCCF urges the NPGs neither to serve any taxation letters to the colonies nor to pressurize the chairmen and council members to collect tax on their behalf,” the statement added.
