Dimapur, June 20
Community councils in Dimapur town have asked citizens to fight for their share of development for their areas even as ‘some tangible developments’ are being seen in the recent times in the commercial town after years of neglect.
The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) issued a press release on Saturday, June 20 making the statement.
The organization, a forum of chairmen of various community councils, said that Dimapur town was witnessing for the first time “some tangible developments”. Due to this expectations “may be very high without knowing the ground reality”.
Nonetheless, the public is asked to be patient and take their grievances to their respective leaders and fight for their share of developmental programs. “DUCCF calls upon the public to be patient and refrain from going to press. Instead public should ask their respective colony leaders to fight for developments and render full support to the DMC, for better Dimapur,” the press release stated. “The organization informs the public to bring forth their request for any developmental works through their respective colony councils which is represented by the council chairman in the DUCCF”.
The group said that every citizen has the responsibility to expressing their concerns and needs bout development.
About ‘concentrated work’
The organization also tried to explain what it called “public misconception about concentrating of works in a particular constituency while neglecting the other”. The organization was referring to perception that the DMC was neglecting some areas while others were put to developmental priority.
“There should not be any public misconception about concentrating of works in a particular constituency while neglecting the other. It is for the public consumption that the whole of Dimapur 1 constituency falls under the DMC area. Whereas Dimapur 2 constituency half of the area falls outside the DMC jurisdiction,” the councils stated.
“And so far to the knowledge of DUCCF tangible works had already been executed even in market areas and colonies under Dimapur 2 constituency. Hence, the question of concentration of the developmental works in a particular constituency doesn’t arise,” the statement said.
The public are requested to understand that some adjoining areas of the municipality do not fall under the jurisdiction of the DMC. Likewise, the council said, the main roads of the town are under the Public Works’ Department (Road & Bridge) department.
“Instead public should ask their respective colony leaders to fight for developments and render full support to the DMC, for better Dimapur,” the council said.
