Dimapur, Aug. 10 (EMN): The Phek district police are said to have confiscated cough syrup Codeine from the proprietor of a chemist for which the trade license of the pharmacy has been cancelled, updates stated.
The police establishment issued a communiqué to the media on Saturday informing about the enforcement activity.
The enforcement was to “achieve effective deterrence” against illegal procurement and sale of prohibited substances such as ‘codeine’ that is said to be “found” in cough syrup, the police stated.
“Recently, upon application to the drug controller, directorate of Health and Family Welfare by SP Phek, the license of Jagat Pharmacy at Meluri town in Phek was cancelled following seizure of 205 bottles of Codeine cough syrup from the proprietor Shri. Jagat Lakambri,” a communiqué stated.
Police personnel at Lanyi check gate in Phek district are said to have confiscated the drug.
“The proprietor of Jagat Pharamcy could not produce any cash memo/invoice to justify legitimate purchase and future sale of the drug. All police stations in the district have been directed to follow a similar policy of immediately applying for cancellation of drug licences in case of pharmacies illegally selling psychotropic substances, which are being rampantly abused by the youth,” the updates stated.
