I am deeply concerned about our Smart City Project, Kohima. But we see little improvement on the road transport, abundant project and very little safety for the pedestrians on the NH 29. Being smart city, sanitation matters should have been given highest priority. Drainages are filled with dirt and septic tanks are being opened to flow to drainages creating most dirty smell which is also a health hazard to the people living in the smart city, specially the children. Septic tanks are not properly emptied by many house owners and hoteliers forming a habit to release the same to the drainages from time to time. Some of these drainages are located between Assam Rifles and Midland; Kitsubozou (Chotobasti) and D Block which is the worst affected from mud and dirt and the people living in that area is known as slum area. Naga Bazar, Daklane, PWD, Chandmari, porter lane and many other areas also facing similar problems. Uncontrolled flow of harmful septic tank liquids not only creating air pollution but also effecting life and health of the children in their respective areas. It is not known whether any scheme to deter such practices exist and if so, the executing agency must be smart and free from corruption from looting public money meant for Smart City, Kohima.
