Zeliang asks departments to find alternative space for inter and intra-state traffic
Dimapur, September 29 : A coordination meeting on 4-laning of National Highway 29 with the departments of PWD (NH), Power and Police, Chief Secretary, DGP, GM, NHIDCL and contractors was held on Thursday.
Chief Minister TR Zeliang, who chaired the meeting, directed the department of Power to immediately begin the process of shifting of the power utilities in the affected areas of the 4-laning. The CM also asked the departments concerned to work out alternative stretches for inter and intra-state traffic wherever possible, Commissioner & Secretary, Works and Housing, I Himato Zhimomi, said in a release.
He said various issues concerning the works were taken up during the meeting.
The contractors were said to have informed that the works on the said stretches of the road would begin after October 15 on commencement of the dry working season. In this connection, the government has requested the public at large to extend their cooperation and bear with the inconveniences that would result from the construction works, the release said.
The contractors also informed that they were given three years time to complete the works. However, the CM requested them that they should try to complete the works earlier.
Other issues such as security arrangements, cooperation of local communities and work related issues were discussed during the meeting. It was also decided that regular meetings chaired by the CM would be held in order to closely monitor the 4-laning of NH 29, the release added.
