The managing director of the Cooperative Society K Kathi Chishi, who received the award for the organisation, said the Society won the award in the ‘Difficult Area 3’ category, a category for organisations operating in the INR 10 lakh to INR one crore segment. Chishi said the organisation was a grassroots movement providing services in finance, training, farming, construction; incubation; mobilisation; marketing; construction; and processing. "We design holistic packages to effectively assist marginal farmers, women groups and entrepreneurs by hand holding them from the beginning till the end. The organisation is coming up with 17 new finished products," he said. "As an entrepreneur the key achievement about the Society was that we started with nothing but faith in our knowledge, personal dedication, and generating revenue through the service we provide. Our resilience, patience and commitment towards our vision were big factors. Entrepreneurship gives so much to learn that there is no word called achievement in fact everyday is an achievement." Toka Multipurpose Cooperative Society was established in 1995, started in a basement with seven volunteers, a seed fund of INR 7000 and two kilograms of seeds. They gradually convinced farmers, stakeholders, and government agencies to join their journey. After hurdles, today it is said have 39,000 farmers, 500 women self help groups, and 200 entrepreneurs in various sectors and 13 nurseries, he said.
