Dimapur, May 6 (EMN): The 3rd review meeting of Cooperation department covering the period from October 2016 to April 2017 was held at Hammock Resort, Wokha on May 2, under the chairmanship of Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Cooperation department, Lithrongla G. Chishi, IAS.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Wepe Ritse while presenting the activities of the department, highlighted the enactment and passing of the Nagaland Cooperative Act 2017 by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the successful participation during the Hornbill Festival 2016 and Republic Day 2017 celebration, the distribution of two wheelers for loan recovery, installation of new Board of Directors of MARCOFED and the preliminary formulation of Roadmap of Cooperation Department.
District and sub-division offices also presented review on recovery of loans, cancellation of non-functioning cooperative societies, status of audit and other ongoing projects.
Lithrongla, while reviewing the performances, expressed appreciation to all field officers for recovering an amount of Rs. 1.06 crore from June 2016 to April 2017. She lauded the department for the extraordinary feat and reminded the department officers not to be complacent but to continue the momentum for achieving the current year target of recovering Rs. 2.00 crore.
She said the enactment of the recent Nagaland Cooperative Act 2017, has empowered recovery officers to initiate legal proceedings against the defaulting cooperative societies and to seize the mortgaged assets, and directed the district officers to initiate such steps in coordination with the district administration.
While discussing the status of the sick and non-functioning industrial cooperative units, directions were issued to district officers to submit a report for initiation of liquidation process and realization of mortgage assets.
