Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): In one of the biggest confiscations of contraband items in recent times, the 12th Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles on March 13 apprehended a drug peddler with Brown Sugar and WY tablets worth approximately INR 11.96 crore near Tengnoupal district in Manipur.
A press release from the Inspector General Assam Rifles (south) issued on March 14 mentioned that acting on specific input, a TATA Sumo Grande(Regd. no. TR01 U 0250) was stopped at MVCP Tengnoupal.
On checking, 138 packets of Brown Sugar weighing 1.865 kg and 450 packets containing 90,000 WY tablets were said to have been found hidden inside the vehicle.
Approximate market cost of the recovered items is said to be about INR 11.96 crore.
On interrogation, it is said to have been revealed that the consignment was being transported to Shillong.
The recovered drugs along-with the apprehendee, one Paokholen Baite(21) from Moreh is said to be handed over to Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) in Imphal.
