Imphal, Jan. 17 (EMN): A day after detecting and seizing large quantities of contraband tablets from a police vehicle, a police team of Kakching district in Manipur seized 278 grams of more contraband items from a passenger at Pallel, about 50km south of Imphal on Tuesday.
‘The said seizure was done from the possession of one passenger coming in an e-rickshaw vehicle coming from Molnoi side in front of Pallel Police Station during random frisking checking,’ said a police official stationed in Kakching district.
The detection and seizure was affected by combined teams led by Subedar S Birla Singh, Officer-in- Charge of Commando Unit, Kakching and assisted by Head Constable N Muhendro Singh of Pallel Police Station along with lady commando constables under the supervision of Additional SP (Ops) Kakching Binoy Chongtham.
The arrested person has been identified as Neipi Haokip (28) of Khotlenphai Village, Tengnoupal district presently staying in Molnoi Village near Pallel. The detained person along with the said e-rickshaw were searched after observing legal formalities.
‘The arrested person along with the seized articles were then handed over to the officer-in-charge of Kakching Police Station for taking up further necessary legal action,’ police said.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh lauded the SP Shrey Vats of Kakching district led state police team for successfully detecting and seizing large quantities of contraband items from a police vehicle.
In a social media post, Biren Singh wrote: “I congratulate the SP Kakching Police and team on successfully intercepting the suspected Heroin and WY tablets from one Police team.”
“There will be zero tolerance for anyone involved with illegal drugs, no matter who. Investigation about this case is currently underway. Rest assured, all those who are found guilty will face the wrath of law,” he added.
