Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): Consumer Right Organisation (CRO) has decried resolution No. 4 of the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) which was adopted during its on June 22. DCCI had resolved that no individual or organisation would be allowed to conduct search for expiry of items or MRP inside shops and godowns.
CRO, in a joint press release issued by its vice president, Simon Achumi, and the president, James Jungio, questioned DCCI on the benefit or protection served to the consumers by its resolution which barred the consumers to check expiry and tampered MPR of goods.
Referring to the Consumer Protection Act 1986, it stated that every consumer has the right to get information about the quality and quantity, purity standards and price of goods or services so as to protect himself/ herself against the abusive and unfair practices. It added that every consumer have the right to be protected against the marketing of goods and services which are hazardous to life and properties.
While rejecting the DCCI resolution, CRO urged the competent authority to direct the former to revoke its resolution No.4 for the protection and interest of consumers. CRO iterated that it would stand for the rights of the consumers and continue protecting the consumers from all sorts of malpractices, goods and food adulteration etc, which directly harm/effect the innocent consumers.
