DIMAPUR — A consumer awareness programme was organised by the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection in collaboration with Zunheboto Government College (ZGC) at the college auditorium hall on Tuesday.
According to a DIPR report, the resource person of the programme, Retainer Lawyer of the Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA), Easter H Yeptho, highlighted the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (CPA 2019), which came into force in July 2020.
She explained key issues such as false advertisements, violation of safety standards, hoarding by shopkeepers, and failure to provide cash memos or receipts—all of which fall under unfair trade practices as per CPA 2019.

She further informed the gathering that services provided by health professionals also come under the ambit of consumer rights. If a patient is denied medical assistance due to the unavailability of doctors or nurses, a complaint can be filed under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, for violation of consumer rights, she said.
Yeptho also elaborated on the procedure for filing consumer complaints.
The keynote address was delivered by Assistant Controller, Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Khevishe Z Zhimomi.
