DIMAPUR — A consumer awareness programme was organised by the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LM&CP), Kohima, and Chiephobozou GB Union on the theme ‘Legal metrology and consumer protection:  The journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047,’ on Tuesday at DB’s Hall, Chiephobozou.


Speaking as a the special guest, ADC Chiephobozou, Alemyapang Longchar,  said that ‘Developed India’ or ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ is the government’s vision to drive the mission of making India a completely developed nation by its 100th anniversary of Independence in 2047.


The ADC called upon all the consumers to work hand in hand for a developed India and urged the participants to spread awareness on how to exercise consumer rights.

Assistant Controller, LM&CP,  Shiekhozo, in his keynote address, said that legal metrology plays a crucial role in ensuring fair trade practices, accurate measurements and safeguarding consumer rights in daily life. The department is also responsible for enforcing standards in weights and measures, preventing commercial malpractices and addressing consumer grievances, he said. 


Resource person, advocate and retainer lawyer at DLSA Kohima, Sunjib Rana, highlighted the key features of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 and also stressed on the importance of exercising consumers’ right to choose, right to safety, right to be heard, right to redressal and right to awareness to know consumer protection rights. He encouraged the participants to be well informed and educate about the consumer rights.


The programme was chaired by Dzüvilhou Khano, LMCP Kohima, while short speech was delivered by Kekhrieneinuo Zumvü, Deputy Chairperson of Chiephobozou CTC.
