Imphal, Dec. 10 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has reiterated that a Consultative Committee comprising representatives of all the communities of the state and a Drafting Committee would be constituted soon in connection with the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) or a similar system in the state to protect the interest of indigenous population. ILP is a special pass that is required to enter Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram.
Chief Minister Singh said a notice to invite imminent persons to join the two committees would be issued on the media within a few days.
CM Singh was speaking to reporters on the sideline of Hill Leaders’ Day held at his Secretariat on Sunday.
Singh also conveyed the same information to a group of editors and press correspondent during an informal meeting at his bungalow in Imphal on Saturday.
Chief Minister also said that the state government has also taken up adequate security measures at all the border areas of the state to check entry of illegal migrants and prevent unlawful activities in the wake of Rohingya crisis in Myanmar and National Register of Citizens process in Assam.
Informing that a police station would be opened at Behiang in Churachandpur district bordering Myanmar at the earliest, he said he is planning to visit the interior village (located along Indo-Myanmar border) in Churanchandpur district to lay the foundation stone of the police station soon after the finalisation of other process.
The state government is planning to deploy IRB personnel at Kwatha, another interior village in Chandel district bordering Myanmar, he added. Apart from opening an additional police post, around 60 armed police personnel had been sent to Jiribam (bordering Assam’s Cachar district) to meet the required security manpower.
Stating that police stationed at Jiribam, 225km west of Imphal,had been strengthened and directed to remain alert as illegal migrants trespass to State’s territory by crossing the temporary bamboo bridges built over Jiri river, he informed that his government is considering the proposal for construction of a ‘welcome gate’ and opening of a police check post at Jessami in Ukhrul district bordering Nagaland’s Phek district.
Responding to a query regarding the inconvenience faced by the people due to checking and frisking for long hours at Khudengthabi post along Imphal-Moreh highway, he said that all these problems would be eased out once a vehicle scanning machine which had already been procured,is installed there.
It may be mentioned that Hill Leaders’ Day was organised by the chief minister's office in Imphal to meet the hill village leaders and representatives on 10th of every month since May this year. He met around 500 people during the day's Hill Leaders’ Day.
