Institutions and legal services authorities across Nagaland observe 76th Constitution Day with pledges and awareness programmes.

DIMAPUR — Institutions, government departments, and legal services authorities across Nagaland observed the 76th Constitution Day on Wednesday.
Civil Secretariat: Nagaland Civil Secretariat officers and staff celebrated the day to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India at the Secretariat conference hall, Kohima.
Nagaland Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha chaired the programme and highlighted the historic journey of the Indian Constitution. Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen initiated the pledge-taking, where the Preamble to the Constitution of India was read aloud.

Kohima DLSA: The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in collaboration with the Kohima Bar Association (KBA) and Prosecution, observed the day at DPDB Hall, Kohima, with Justice Songkhupchung Serto, chairperson of the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) and retired judge of the Gauhati High Court, as the chief guest.
According to an update, speaking on the occasion, he stressed that the Constitution is not merely a document but a living, evolving entity that embodies the dreams and aspirations of forefathers.
He noted that India has witnessed remarkable progress in the last 76 years, guided by the constitution that has been adopted through 106 amendments. The latest is the 106th amendment Act 2023 which provides for a one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and the state assemblies.
Longleng DLSA: The Longleng DLSA observed the day with the students of Hill Top Hostel, Longleng. The programme was chaired by L Yingloi Phom, panel lawyer, while Advocate Chinge, the resource person, discussed educational rights, child labour, and women's rights.
Bongyei, a retainer lawyer and resource person, explained the importance of the Indian Constitution, highlighting the fundamental rights and duties.
Wokha DLSA: The Wokha DLSA observed the day at Wokha Police Station. Seyielenuo Mezhu, district and sessions judge and chairperson of Wokha DLSA, shared on the significance of the day.
Dr. Wonchano E Enny, district mission coordinator, and Thungbeni Kikon, centre administrator, Sakhi-OSC centre, highlighted Mission Shakti and child marriage. A signature campaign on child marriage and visitation/inspection of Wokha Police Station and Women Police Station was led by the chairperson of WDLSA.
Mon DLSA: The Mon DLSA observed the day at Amanhong Baptist Church, Amanhong village. Chumei Mercy Konyak, asst. LADC, Mon, spoke on the evolution of the Indian Constitution and highlighted key fundamental rights.
Wokono Yhoshii, chief judicial magistrate-cum-secretary, Mon DLSA, explained the key provisions of the DAWN Scheme 2025. She stressed the growing impact of drug abuse on youth.
She also informed the participants about helplines 1933 (MANAS – National Narcotics Helpline) and 14446 (rehabilitation and counselling). Advocate Henlem P, a panel lawyer, spoke on the important provisions of the POCSO Act and the Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
Phek DLSA: The Phek DLSA, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Phek, observed the day at GHSS Phek.
Thomeweu, panel lawyer, emphasised that the day serves as a reminder to uphold the core constitutional values of Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, and Secularism. Thukutalu Chizo, panel lawyer, spoke on "Child-friendly legal services to children and their protection". As part of the celebration, a painting competition was organised.
Kiphire DLSA: The Kiphire DLSA organised a slogan competition on the theme "Constitution of India". First prize was secured by Rangcholipa of Zisaji Presidency College (ZPC), second by Avithong L of Govt. Hr. Sec. School (GHSS) Kiphire, and third by Yutsali T Sangtam of ZPC.
Tuensang DLSA: The Tuensang DLSA observed the day with court staff, the Tuensang Bar Association, PI staff and LADC staff at the conference hall, District court complex.
Kumdilong Kessen, NJS secretary, Tuensang DLSA, highlighted the significance of Constitution Day. P Herola, retainer lawyer, shared on the POSH Act.
Mokokchung DLSA: The day was observed at the District Court, Mokokchung. The preamble to the Constitution and the pledge to uphold the Constitution of India was led by Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary Julian Sithlou and read out collectively by all participants.
Zunheboto DLSA: The Zunheboto DLSA observed the day at Govt. Middle High School, New Colony, Zunheboto. Easter H Yepthomi, retainer lawyer, spoke on the occasion on the meaning and evolution of the Constitution.
Gauhati High Court: The Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench observed Constitution Day at the Bar Room. The welcome address was delivered by Ajongba Imchen, registrar.
During the short speech segment, LT Sangtam, additional advocate general, addressed the gathering, followed by CT Jamir, president of the High Court Bar Association. Justice Yarenjungla Longkumer, judge, Gauhati High Court, also delivered a short speech.
Justice N Unni Krishnan Nair, judge, Gauhati High Court, addressed the programme as well. The event concluded with the “Reading of the Preamble”.
Dimapur DLSA: The Dimapur DLSA celebrated the day with the students of Government High School, Naharbari. The programme was chaired by PL Tonika Shohe. PL Kiyekali spoke on fundamental rights and duties, while PL Moatila addressed the students on digital rights and privacy under the Constitution.
Nagaland University: The university's Department of Political Science and Department of Law jointly organised the celebration on the theme “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman”.
Prof. Dasarathi Bhuyan, HoD, Department of Political Science, asserted that India’s constitutional makers had a vision for the future of the nation. Dr. Likhase Sangtam, associate professor, Department of Political Science, stated that the constitution puts the people over the government and the government under the authority of the Constitution.
The chief guest and vice chancellor (i/c), Prof. Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, paid tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly. This was followed by a lecture by Prof. Yugal Kishore from the National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi.
DIPR Kohima: The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Nagaland, Kohima, observed National Constitution Day at its premises.
The programme was chaired by Kevizayieno, additional director, DIPR, who administered the Constitution Day pledge. The programme was attended by officers and staff of the department.
GHS Padumpukhuri: Government High School (GHS) Padumpukhuri, Dimapur, observed the day by participating in the nationwide campaign "Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman" with the objective of encouraging citizens to read and understand the Indian Constitution's Preamble.
Sixty students participated in reading the Preamble.
