NPCC raises concerns over alleged voter deletions during SIR and urges verification of electoral rolls in Mon district

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), under its campaign “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao,” held a meeting in Mon district on Tuesday to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and its implementation across the district.
The meeting was attended by AICC Observer Puran Chand Padhi, NPCC working president Apok Jamir and members of the Mon District Congress Committee (DCC), the NPCC stated in a press release.
Addressing the gathering, Padhi expressed concern that the SIR exercise could be misused to delete the names of genuine voters from electoral rolls.
Raising the issue of alleged “Vote Chori,” he alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was overseeing a process through which eligible voters were being removed from the electoral rolls.
He urged Congress workers to remain vigilant and undertake thorough constituency-level verification of electoral rolls to identify any wrongful deletions.
Emphasising that protecting every eligible citizen's right to vote was essential to safeguarding democracy, he reiterated the campaign's message of “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao.”

Speaking at the meeting, Jamir also stressed the need for close monitoring of the SIR process, raising concerns over what he described as “Vote Chori” and “Ghati Chor.”
Citing statistics during his address, he claimed that approximately 14% of votes had been deleted across the country and called for vigilance to ensure that no genuine voter was deprived of their democratic right.
Jamir observed that the SIR exercise in Mon district had been carried out more systematically than in certain other districts, particularly Dimapur.
He underscored the importance of proper monitoring and verification throughout Nagaland.
The NPCC leader urged Congress workers to thoroughly scrutinise the electoral rolls and complete the necessary verification before November 20, 2026, so that discrepancies or wrongful deletions could be identified and brought to the notice of the appropriate authorities.
He also called upon party workers to remain united, disciplined and committed in their efforts during the revision exercise.
The meeting concluded with an appeal to all DCC members and grassroots Congress workers to intensify efforts to safeguard the voting rights of every eligible citizen.
The NPCC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every eligible voter is duly included in the electoral rolls.
