KOHIMA — To involve Congress party workers from the grassroots in the decision-making process, and also to revamp the party organisation, the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, initiated by Indian National Congress, was organised by Kohima District Congress Committee, on Thursday at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.
Addressing a press conference after the programme, Lalji Desai, chief organiser of AICC Seva Dal and AICC observer, said that Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan is aimed at involving the voice of the grassroots Congress worker and local leaders.
He urged local leaders to give inputs, feedback, suggestions and recommendations on how to transform the Congress organisation at the grassroots level.
He claimed that the perception is changing in India as “most of them are now against the ruling government at central level, but at the same time, we also need to transform our organisation.”

He maintained that the organisation is a deciding factor, not the electoral body, and that is why the campaign has started across India.
Desai said that the campaign is to understand the community-level issues and to get suggestions for solutions and to resolve those which the local community is facing.
He said that they will be staying for days to get more ideas and a deeper understanding about the district and also meet the congress workers.
He also mentioned that they will try to have District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents across the state, citing that they have 12 DCC presidents at present.
He stated that they will go to district level and block level and make people identify the potential leaders.
He maintained that once the DCC presidents are selected they will be given compulsory time-bound tasks and training programmes to understand how to transform the organisation.
C Apok Jamir, working president of NPCC and PCC observer, stated that the purpose of the campaign is to empower the people, especially at the booth level, assembly level and district level, so that there is no upper influence in selecting quality leadership in the state or in the assembly constituency.
He added that the whole idea is something which is very new “but we feel that it is something which is going to have an impact on every state that we are conducting.”
Khriedi Theiinuo working president NPCC also added that Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan is an initiative to “build a strong party, more accountable, people-connected party, starting from the district congress committee level.”
