The NPCC has reiterated the stand taken by its Political Affairs Committee (PAC) that the ongoing political crisis in the State is purely the internal power struggle among the NPF leaders who have abdicated their responsibilities to the people in their lust for power. Media Cell, NPCC, in a release on Sunday, said it had reiterated its stand to dispel the notion of Congress tacitly supporting or aiding any group and put all speculations and assumptions to rest. However, the release said though Congress has been approached by both the NPF groups to bail them out, yet it remains firm that the internal fight of the NPF cannot change the corrupt and tainted image of the NPF leaders who have destroyed the State in every sphere of governance during the past 12 years.
The Congress also termed, the central BJP leaders, as published in a particular local daily, indicating that they could opt for President's rule if the rebel NPF MLAs cannot make it to form the government or if the incumbent Chief Minister "moves close" to Congress to prove his majority on the floor of the House as highly condemnable and said this shows their scant respect for established democratic norms.
Though it remained non-committal about its support to any of the groups, the Congress questioned the BJP as to whether its (Congress) support for any of the groups is unconstitutional warranting imposition of President’s rule. “If that be the case, will the same yardstick also apply to the state BJP unit whose leaders after enough of flip-flopping has once again officially reaffirmed its support to the rebel NPF camp even though its central leaders are said to be closely watching the situation and treating the matter as purely internal matter of the NPF,” the NPCC asked.
The Congress said the BJP cannot befool the people of Nagaland who can see through their cheap political stunts that have nothing to offer except empty rhetoric and propagation of communal and divisive agenda. Imposing President’s rule at this juncture will not be the answer to the problems faced by the people of the state who had given the NPF a massive mandate despite their blatant misrule and corruption since 2003, it opined.
“Therefore, the NPF leaders in both camps who are blinded with greed to amass more power and wealth should wake up from their reverie and respect the mandate of the people to provide a semblance of stable government for the given tenure,” the Congress stressed.
The NPCC also appealed to the Governor to rescue the people of the State from the clutches of paralysed governance by executing his assigned role as the guardian of the Constitution and end this impasse without any biasness or favour through duly constituted mechanisms that will restore the principles of democracy which have been hijacked by the internal power struggle of the ruling NPF party.
