Dimapur, Dec 16: In the aftermath of busting of alleged PDS rice scam and the events that followed, the State Congress alleged that opposition-less government has literally become “modern day monolithic, monopolistic, one party dictatorship that is determined to dictate the entire political, cultural, religious, social and economic lives of every individual or group in Nagaland even to the extent of redefining concept of corruption.” In a release issued by its media cell on Friday, the state Congress said it is extremely ironical that the NPF-led government cannot understand the logic that anti-corruption is opposition to corruption (not government) and organised anti-corruption is natural reaction to patronized corruption that by the very government people had duly elected to secure the welfare of citizens.
To buttress its observation, the party cited “complete turnaround arrest of ACAUT leaders while leaving scot free the accused regarded as ‘two prominent stockists’; arrogance of state government to release arrested members despite widespread public protest; defying public pressure to act on FIR filed first against the accused; and then applying brute force to stifle peaceful public gathering against corruption”.
It said almost everybody/every group from the lowest to the highest authority - State Governor, DAN-alliance BJP, NPCC, NTC, CNTC, CCN, ACAUT etc. and countless concerned individuals have been expressing deep concern against rampant corruption in different platform much to the discomfort of State Government. “And except for defensive NPF party, who does not know about heap of dirt in the Department of F & CS throughout these years or for that matter Fuel Adulteration & Others,” the release stated.
According to Nagaland Congress, it is ridiculous for government or party to defend that there is no corruption warranting such public protest and that some anti-corruption groups or individuals are taking law into their hands. “Rather it is corrupt government which is misusing the law to shield the like of Tinku Sethi and Nirmal Jain for questionable reasons which will be brought to light sooner or later,” it said.
The Congress felt ACAUT will still dig out the past excesses of what it alleged corrupt government and leaders in power who have become “untouchables” today.
It further asked how could the government pronounce innocence of these absconding persons before trial.
If a welfare government is willing to sacrifice the public for greed and safety of some “human leeches”, conscious public must protest not only in Dimapur but all over the State, the Congress said while quoting Mahatma Gandhi who said “Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state becomes lawless and corrupt”.
